Should I use the API or MCP?

The API and MCP provide two ways to use Magica outside the web and mobile apps.

Choose

When

API

Your application, script, or backend should call Magica directly

MCP

A compatible AI client should discover and use Magica tools

Use the API

The REST API is the best choice when your software controls the request and response. It supports programmatic access to models, Nodes, Flow workflows, run status, and related capabilities documented in the developer reference.

Common uses include backend services, internal tools, mobile apps, and automated business processes.

Use MCP

The MCP server is the best choice when an MCP-compatible AI client should decide when and how to use Magica. The client can discover available Magica tools and call supported model or workflow capabilities during a conversation.

Important boundary

Both public surfaces focus on models, Nodes, and Flow workflows. They do not expose your Super Agent task conversations as a public agent API.

Create and manage credentials through Settings → API Keys. Treat API keys like passwords and never place them in public code or client-side applications.
